About 'fifty of grey book'|Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One from the Fifty Shades Trilogy [Kindle Edition] price
While everyone else is discussing which actors are best suited to play the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that by some miracle the screenplay for E.L. James' novel Fifty Shades of Grey somehow falls beneath the cracks. It was bad enough there were three books, but now we have to suffer through the poorly crafted and terribly written story on the big screen. At this point I'm fairly sure I'm in the vast minority of the female population when I say I found absolutely nothing entertaining about Fifty Shades of Grey. Okay, not true. It was so badly written that sometimes I had to stop and have a laugh. By the first page it was blatantly evident that there was no editing work done at all. Here are my top three reasons why I'm not in love with Fifty Shades of Grey. Christian Grey is abusive. It doesn't take a genius to figure out Christian and Ana's relationship isn't typical, but some might be surprised that this kind of relationship isn't common even in the BDSM community. All the kinky sex aside, Christian is emotionally abusive. He displays trademark traits of abusive men throughout all three novels. He stalks her. He buys the company she works for, and everyone is lead to believe this is completely normal. Stalking isn't romantic. It's creepy. Ana has zero likable traits. Characters are supposed to have flaws to make them interesting, but there's something wrong if that's all they have. Ana is clumsy, has low-esteem, and is constantly complaining about her much better of a person roommate Kate. It doesn't help at all that her inner-goddess and her subconscious are at war nonstop, or that fact that she talks like a 40 year-old British lady. Fifty Shades of Grey started as a Twilight fanfiction. And there isn't a moment in the book where you can't tell it's exactly that. Besides changing character names, James did nothing to make her series original. Ana is an exact copy of Bella Swann if you take away the few things that made her a good character, and Christian is Edward without the vampire teeth. |
